LATEST NEWS

This site is dedicated to the children and young people, past and present who have used the RAPP service since 1997. The site was designed alongside many of these young people who attend RAPPs different groups, they supported the RAPP staff and Sheik Design to choose the layout, characters and content.

Much of the information on the site comes from the creativity and ideas of young people. The ongoing work and development of RAPP is very much accreditable to our valued and unique partners, such as the Warren (Save the Children in the early days) Connexions Humber, Hull City Council Children's Services, Hull Youth Council, Community Anti Bullying Project, Hull Children's Fund, Hull Safeguarding Children's Board and Hull Health Authority.

RAPP is very proud to be a Hull project, and proud to represent Hull at National events, where children and young people from Hull, take centre stage and more often than not, steal the show!

Now eleven years old it is true to say that RAPP  feels privileged, as a team of workers, to have had the opportunity to share in the lives of thousands of children and young people we have worked with over this time. They have taught us so much, that is now part and parcel of RAPP's practice.

We never fail to be amazed by the skills of children and young people, their resilience, creativity and strength of character to get on with their lives despite what might be thrown at them along the way.

Enjoy the site!

RAPP Because children and young people matter and when we listen, it matters to them.

News just in from the world of the RAPP:

Due to the increased demand on the RAPP service, RAPP is running pop-in/advice surgeries for children, young people and their families at the RAPP office on a fortnightly basis. The pop ins have proved very popular with the RAPP staff having contact with a number of young people, presenting a range of issues. Contact RAPP on 225855 for further information.

RAPP are also running similar surgeries on a fortnightly basis at Wheeler Street Primary School, Kingswood High School, Winifred Holtby and Thorpepark Primary School. If you are a teacher, Headteacher or School Support Worker and would like RAPP to carry out a similar service at your School, contact Craig Clark on 01482-225855 OR contact the Schools directly and ask them if it's working!

If you are from a School reading this here's a special offer….just for you. If you pay for the RAPP service to come into your School and we do not make any headway or impact with the children or young people…we will give your MONEY BACK!

Contact Craig Clark on 225855 to discuss this further.

New Projects

RAPP is pleased to announce the launch of three new projects; TOO MAD (Think of others Make a difference) is aimed at 15 -20 year olds with the idea of giving them the opportunity to work together as a team and do some mad, fun hair raising activities to raise money for local and national charities. The RAPP staff team officially launched this project on July 7th by walking the Three Peaks in the Yorkshire Dales in 10 and half hours to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Ward at Castle Hill Hospital and St Martins House Children’s Hospice in Wetherby.

The second project is a consultation supported by the Family Justice Council and is aimed at listening to the views and ideas of children and young people who have been through the courts for care proceedings or if their parents or carers have separated or divorced. Please contact Craig or Lisa Billany on 225855 to discuss either of these projects and find out more.

The third project is the launch of a new group called BOOST aimed at raising young peoples self confidence and improving relationship skills that runs every other Tuesday 4.15 until 5.30 at RAPP. Please contact Christine on 225855 for more Information.

How busy is the RAPP?

From our statistics we believe that on average we receive 20 - 25 new referrals each month. The main referring issues are: anger management, school and family issues, and anti-bullying support. Through running our weekly groups, casework, training and school pop-in surgeries we estimate as a team of workers, we have contact with around 200 young people each week.

In addition to this, the Humber Mentoring Project (HMP) project has contact with around 120 young people each week through running its programmes in schools and other organisations across the region.

You could say that.....that's a lot of output for a small but perfectly formed machine......and yes we would agree with you!

It's all well and good talking about numbers, but what do we actually do that makes any difference to these children and young people's lives? Well, the answer to that is we consistently evaluate what we do and ask young people and professionals who we work with...did we make any difference?

We have put together a file that covers all our group and casework activity in terms of outcomes and focuses on over 40 casework examples of our work.

This file is available for viewing at any time. In addition, if you are a representative of an agency and interested in working in partnership with RAPP, please get in touch.

TALK TO BOB..

RAPP's Anti bullying support group BOG OFF BULLIES has recently trained a group of young people as anti bullying helpline operators to answer the phone to other young people who may be experiencing bullying problems. The helpline on 225855 runs every Wednesday evening from the RAPP offices between 4 to 6pm.

BACK FROM A LAND DOWN UNDER... The recent Freedom Road trip to Australia proved to be a massive success and life changing experience that the young people will never forget. Freedom Road performed to over 100 invited guests at a Conference aimed at listening to young peoples care experiences in Darling Harbor, Sydney. Some of these young people had never been a plane before this trip and they were a credit to themselves and the City of Hull. LIVE THE DREAM...!

Staff changes:

In addition to our new recruits this year, Katie Roberts (Hull Safeguarding Board) and Sue Overton; RAPP have also recently added Shaun ‘Twang’ Tinegate, Mike Gillet, Cindy Brogan and Christine Charlton as RAPP caseworkers to the RAPP Team.

Student placements at RAPP:

Did you know that over 50% of students who come on a placement with RAPP, then stay at the project? We have recently bid fond farewells to Kelly, Laura and Kirsty who have completed their placements and welcomed ... Rowena who has started her placements with us.. Good Luck!
